NEORHYTHM are new to me but as I liked what I heard I wanted to find out more. Anders Ekdahl ©2018

How important is the band’s name in giving out the right kind of vibe?
-Yes, of course the name of our band is a special assonance, denoting our music. But at the same time, if literally – this is the “rhythm from the planet Neuw”, our native home.

I wanted to start a band in the 80s but couldn’t find the right people to do so with. What was it that made you want to do the band?
-Although we are together from different parts of the planet Neuw – we sensed the musical vibrations of each other telepathically, at a great distance. At ours and your planets there is a noosphere, a thought-field, in which ideas are concentrate, born by minds of the poets and musicians. So we found each other and fruitfully united, finding common strings and desires.

With so many genres and sub-genres of metal today what is your definition of the music you play?
-By earthly definitions we play groove metal. Of course, apparently we have a few elements of hardcore and math-metal, but, in fact, all this is just the rhythms of our hearts.

How do you arrange the tracks? Is there a method to how you arrange the songs on a record?
-Firstly, music is written, then text immediately, everything is very simple, we do not have orchestrations, etc. In general, the most important elements of our music is bass frequencies and a very clear rhythm – this is the basis!

I am fascinated by how people can still come up with things that hasn’t been done before, chord structures that hasn’t been written, sentences that hasn’t been constructed before. Where do you find your inspiration to create?
-We believe that there is nothing supernova in the world, everything is done on the basis of old developments, of something already started once-upon-a-time, something is always interpreted, sometimes the creators are inspired by already done before them.
It’s not bad, it’s an ever-continuing life, it seems like the transfer of genetic cells.
And Inspiration… The more it is, the more you read books, the more you learn the world. A Man is such a creature, he always can think something up. On the fantasies the human world is built.

How important is the graphic side of the band? How much thought goes into art work etc.?
-Everything should be perfect in the work. Since music has such elements as sound and picture designs (except the songs and lyrics) – then all this must be done abruptly. Only one element missed – and all will turn into the nonsense, immediately there will be a feeling of irresponsibility and frivolousness of band.

I get the feeling that more and more metalheads too are just downloading single tracks. Is the album as relevant today as it was in the 70s and 80s? Is digital killing the album?
-No, we are solely for the future and progress. Electronic technology – this is very right and good. Nothing is killed, there is very many beautiful new music today!

Are we killing our beloved metal scene by supporting digital downloading or can anything positive come from supporting single tracks and not albums? Will the fan as we know him/her be gone soon?
-By terrestrial standards, we are over 30 years of age in the band, we have been listening to metal for a long time, and we think that the obsession with CDs and vinyl is just a starvation that only hinders the development of music and the music business.
Now metal is much more interesting and diverse than 30 years ago.

Is there a scene to speak of for a band like yours? Where do you fit in?
-We are musical cosmopolitans and would not like to refer ourselves to any particular narrow / local scene. Also we are over-national, and this has always been a feature of elitism.

What does the future hold?
-Only the Happiness!
