This week I am doing a Inverse Records interview special. If you haven’t checked out the quality metal this Finnish label brings us now is the time. I present to you NICUMO: Anders Ekdahl ©2017

I am a word buff so when I find a band name that excites me I want to know the reason behind the choice. So how did you pick your name?
– Our guitarist Atte Jääskelä is welding engineer and he works with different types of metals, materials we mean. NI CU MO is combination of three
elementals and sounded nice as a combination. It also defines us musically, combining different types of metal (genres) smoothly together.

There are so many genres and sub-genres today that it is hard to keep track of them all. So what was it that made you pick the style you play?
– We compose songs that we find to satisfy our needs. There’s no more strategy to fullfill some genres demands.

What influences you in creating your music? What is/has been the single greatest influence?
– Music itself. Of course we all have different bands what we’ve listened and those experiences could’ve affect somehow to material what we make as a Nicumo.

How important is it to have a message as a band?
– Not so important. Most important is to make good music and make people feel something great through our music.

Is image an important factor to the bands appearance?
– Yes, sort of. It’s almost unfortunate thing that in many cases image sells over music. It’s definitely easier to have success with good image.

How important is it to have an album cover that stands out to grab people’s attention in this day and age?
– We think it is not anymore so important thing, but we are old-fashioned that way and main focus for us releasing new music is to make great album, including cover art
as a whole package.

What kind of respect do you get from your local scene?
– We have strong reputation as a band with great, atmospheric music.

How massive is it to get response from places you have never heard of?
– It shows that something is done right and it’s nice to notice that we get awesome feedback all over the world with increasing pace.

Is playing live still a great way to get new fans to discover you?
– Absolutely it is. If you find great new band in live concert, it really affects you to find out more about their music.

What does the future have in its womb?
– In near future we will have a lot to show. We will tour through many different countries with many great bands, big things are about to happen. We are eagerly waiting our
tour to begin and at this time we are giving a hard work producing our live show.
