NORDWITCH

NORDWITCH is a rather odd band name but it does actually work in some awkward way. So much in fact that I had to interview them. Anders Ekdahl ©2016

When you formed the band with what intention did you do so? How easy was it to pick up a thread as to where your sound is going?
-NordWitch is a Blackened/Death Metal band from Ukraine\Hungary. The band was formed on February 2015. NordWitch was not a first project of ours; all band members had a good experience in other bands. It was my idea to create the band. The main idea was to create powerful hellish strong band. With a good music, professional sound, and powerful female vocals with ideological lyrics.

As I haven’t recorded anything I have no idea what that is like but are you ever 100% satisfied? How pleased are you with your latest recording?
-Right now, we have almost finished work on our album “Mork Profeti”, which will be out this summer; several labels from the different countries will release album. Yes, the recording of the album is a very delicate moment; you are always on the lookout and inspiration. Sometimes you need to record and to listen to it repeatedly, to understand if there is anything you would change and to do much better. I’d prefer to record album on one breath, putting the same thoughts and ideas on there. It is necessary to clearly see and understand all what you doing. In aim to bring all the stuff correctly to the listeners. It’s very difficult part of recording process. But if you’ll reach it – you’ll be completely satisfied. I’m sure we have done awesome album. I am completely satisfied. I hope fans will like it as well.

To me a band name is the first thing I notice. If it feels cool then I’ll check the band out. How do you explain the meaning of the band name?
-NordWicth… It’s all about impersonation, mysticism, mystery, Scandinavian witches etc. We have had adopted ideas of Satanism, occultism and mythology of the ancient Scandinavia… And since it’s all about witches – we have female vocals… We have created a certain mood, music, lyrics and the name of the band, and all suits each other.

How important is image to the band? What impression do you want the fans to get of the band?
-I believe that the band image should match with the whole atmosphere, which will show what the band is all about on the stage. That is what we’re working on. I think there is no limits or frameworks. Many bands changing its image year by year. Such like Dimmu Borgir, but fans do not stopping like them. The main thing – all should be harmonious. And fans always accept it.

I am a huge fan of LP art work. How important is it to have the right art work for your album?
-Yeah, I like cover art a lot as well! Sure, it’s very important to have successful artwork!!! Bad artwork may spoil impression about band. Musicians should be very careful while artwork creating process. And to find decent artist, who will be able to understand band’s ideas and visions. And we still working on cover art, with very good Ukrainian artist, who also created art works for Rotting Christ. I’m sure all our fans and new listeners will like our art work.

We live in a superficial world today where you don’t exist if you are not on Youtube and Facebook. Has social media been only beneficial in socializing with the fans or is there a down side to it too?
-Of course, everyone can catch us on Facebook or Youtube. And we are always opened for conversations 

Something I often wonder about is when you play in a band does it feel like you are a part of a massive community?
-Of course! It’s like a secret society, the club of like-minded people.

How important is it to be signed to label today? What can they do that you cannot do on your own?
-Actually, every band must have the deal with some decent label. Because, your band will get good distribution worldwide with the good label. To get more listeners etc. This is very important step for the band. That’s the only way to have professionally released and distributed album.

How much of a touring band are you guys? How hard is it to get gigs outside of your borders?
-Well, now we are preparing for our first European tour, as album support, we hope it will happens this autumn. And it’s really difficult process as for me. And it depends not from the band and not from music band plays, but mostly from economical state of the country you are from, conditions and proposals from bookers etc. I think I will have more to say in the near future.

What will the future bring?
-There are plans to touring and issuing album in the near future!
