I have no concept of time passed which means that most of the times I don’t remember why or when I got in touch with certain bands. Like with OGARYA. I can’t remember where I heard of them first. But it doesn’t really matter where and how I got to hear about them because here they are. Anders Ekdahl ©2016
I am a word buff so when I find a band name that excites me I want to know the reason behind the choice. So how did you pick your name?
-All the concept of the band, his universe and even the name Ogarya itself came from Med. Being yourself a “word buff” as you say, might have made you the perfect target for our world since the word Ogarya was chosen so that it cannot be referring to any existing thing and of course it also had to sound nice. Maybe you can relate the whole thing close to the Gaïa mythology somehow !
There are so many genres and sub-genres today that it is hard to keep track of them all. So what was it that made you pick the style you play?
-Well more than a matter of genre we’d say that is a question of taste because considering only genres is too simplistic, why close doors ? But of course we have some solid common influences which involve classic death metal acts. We’re also very much into tech and brutal death if you really wanna talk sub-genres 😉
That said, the aim in composing isn’t to produce some “sound-alike” stuff, that’s why even if you can feel that some part may be inspired by such or such band, Med (who is the main composer) always put his own personal touch and we hope that’s what you will feel !
To conclude on that point we can say that apart from staying in the extreme metal range, we have no written in stone genre and if you try to label our music, well, it may vary from track to track.
What influences you in creating your music? What is/has been the single greatest influence?
-Well there are many different influences but if we had to mention one I guess it would be sci-fi cinema and of course all the related themes than can be transposed to our real world.
How important is it to have a message as a band?
-Building a real universe around the band’s concept, through all the tracks, makes the whole project has more sense, makes it more consistent for the listener. We really put an effort into this hoping that every sci-fi enthusiast who will check on our stuff will have a good time ! And that it helps imagining the stories behind the lyrics of every tracks.
We tried to make the appeal not to be only on the audio side but also to give scope to the listener’s imagination.
Is image an important factor to the band’s appearance?
-This question is pretty close to the previous to us. Image is also clearly part of the whole concept and helps reinforcing it. The visual aspect could also help to identify the overall theme and attract even before first listenning.
How important is it to have an album cover that stands out to grab people’s attention in this day and age?
-That’s kind of tough for a record to stand out by its cover art. We did an attempt to this with our last formation (Ely & Med) but it ended up credited online for being the worst cover ever -laughs- !!! But after all maybe it helped us to be known and listenned… who knows ?
To be brief a great album cover is always a good point but there are plenty of awesome covers. In the end it’s music that matters most.
What kind of respect do you get from your local scene?
We do have some local support (Support your local scene !!!) but our style isn’t the most popular in our area let’s say… Maybe after we release the album we can reach much more audience likely to enjoy our music & universe.
How massive is it to get response from places you have never heard of?
-We find it very surprising and pleasant ! To come back to the band name question : I guess we made a good choice when we get such feedback thanks to it
Is playing live still a great way to get new fans to discover you?
Sure ! Playing live at gigs n fest remains the best way to meet fans, or to make new ones, but its also somehow essential to play live : that’s the conclusion of the process of composing and recording !
What does the future have in its womb?
-First we’re fully dedicated to the recording of a full-length, sound engineer is already booked and is eager to mix the tracks (so are we !) then it will be time for us to promote our music on stage.
