I will always come back to this. Discovering new bands is like 90% of the fun doing this. So here I present ONE YEAR DELAY to you. ©2015 Anders Ekdahl

As I am not at all familiar with your band perhaps you could introduce it?
-We are One Year Delay and we try to blend all kinds of musical styles that we are interested in, using metal as a background. The band was created in the spring of 2012 and eventually, last november we recorded our debut album at the sound emporium studios in Nashville with Toby Wright as the producer.

How hard was it for you guys to pick a name? What had that name have to have to fit your music?
-The named was picked after a delay we had trying to form the band.Ironically, since we decided to carry on with this name ,all major events that affect the band tend to happen with a delay of roughly 12 months!

What band(s) was it that turned you on to the kind of prog/rock/metal you play? What inspires you today?
-The list is vast but we can mention pantera, tool, korn, slipknot and a billion other bands that do not necessarily belong in the metal field , like Alice in chains. We like to listen to all kinds of music without literally any restriction in order to embody their elements to our songs. For example, our new compositions include some jazz or bossa nova colourings here and there.

What came first; the band name or the sound? How did you settle on a sound?
-Well initially there was a sound and the name followed…Yet that particular sound didn’t last too long so ,right now, we can say that the name is older than the current sound! As for the second question, we are still working on it!I mean a critical point has been a conversation during which we decided to follow no linearities in our music ,yet picking some fundamental elements which would characterize our work.Short words we decided upon a “heavy yet melodic hybrid” basis.

Is digital killing the album format? Is there anything good with releasing single tracks only?
-Sadly ,we will soon have to adjust to the new order of things in music. The magic of exploring a new album will sooner or later exist only among fans that are persisting on the traditional way, because of the “romantic” side of it .

What part does art work and lay out play when you release new recordings? How do you best catch people’s attention?
-The visual part of an album is always a motive for a fan to buy it,especially when he is not familiar with a bands work or history. We like to believe that no matter how impressive your “campaign”might be ,eventually whats left is your music and this will be the main success factor despite what big labels are trying to achieve by letting talentless people infiltrate.

Has social media re-written the rules on how to promote a cd? Or do you go about doing promotion the same way? Touring, word of mouth, paper ads etc?
-Social media definitely changed the ball game. Nowadays even big names are obliged to play along, although touring ,mainly, and all the other traditional ways are always helpful in establishing a name in the music business.

Do you feel like you are a part of a scene, locally, nationally and internationally?
-We think we might have to use three nos in a row here! Well we knew in advance that our music is not included among the most popular of the music genres in our country ,still there are some bands we can relate to. Internationally, there are a lot of bands we have common ground but our unclear music style doesn’t make things easy…

How much of a touring band are you? Is touring/gigging still a great way of spreading the word of the band?
-We are always trying to play as often as possible and currently we working on our gig schedule for the winter to come. No doubt, live performances will forever be the absolute way to promote your work and create a bond with the fans. Its not easy anymore but its a bands duty to keep in touch with new and old fans everywhere.
What will the future bring?
-Hopefully the fans that will purchase our album will appreciate our work as a whole and will meet us somewhere in the world! So far the reviews we have received are really encouraging! We never stop giving birth to new compositions and we wish we will be able to release our second album soon!Thank you and thank your followers for reading this interview!Cheers!
