This band caught my attention because of the name, OPERA MACABRA. Upon hearing them I knew that I had to interview them. ©2016 Anders Ekdahl
Could you please introduce us to the band?
-Our band is conformed of 4 members. We have Marleni Ruano in the drums, Marco Cardona the growling voice, Vivian Barcarcel soprano voice and Jonnathan Lucca guitar and keyboard.
What has been the greatest catalyst in forming your sound?
-The most important thing in forming our sound has been the constant practice and the time we’ve been playing.
How hard is it to record and release new songs?
-It is really hard, because we have to pay for all the costs of the recording and release of the albums, we don’t have the support from anybody but ourselves.
Has digital made it easier to get your music released?
-Yes, thanks to this media it has been really easy for people to know us, but just that, we don’t get any profit from it.
If you release your music digitally is there a risk that you release songs too soon, before you are ready compared to releasing them on cd?
-Yes, it already happened to us, we put up a song on youtube but we didn’t have the cd ready and we had to shut down the video, but people already heard the song so they won’t buy the cd because they already download the song for free.
What kind of responses have you had to your recorded music?
-To be honest the response hasn’t been what we would like it to be, yes we have sell some cd’s but not in a great amount. The scene of the kind of music that we play in our country is really underground and just a few people are interested in acquiring our music. Even thou our cd’s are not expensive, that is another problem for us; that not only is that there a few interested in this type of music but also the economy in our country is not the best.
We live in a world where there are no real distances between people communicating anymore. What has been the most surprising contact so far?
-This one has been the most surprising.
Do you feel like you are a part of a greater community playing in a metal band?
-Yes, but only in our brains so far.
What is the live scene like for you? Do you feel that playing live helps building a bigger following?
-Of course, when you play live your music goes to all type of people that maybe they were not even aware that our type of music could like them, and all of the sudden you have a new fan. And when you play live you get the adrenaline of the moment that feeling that you might fail, but when you get the respond of the people that you don´t know who they are but they are enjoying your music, is just the best.
What plans do you have for the future?
-We have a new cd coming; we planned the releasing to be in mid-January. And keep on making new music.
