Anything that has to do with volcanos can’t be bad, can it? A band name that makes you think of fire and brimstone just gotta be interviewed. So I present to you PYROXENE. Anders Ekdahl ©2017
I am a word buff so when I find a band name that excites me I want to know the reason behind the choice. So how did you pick your name?
-We really had a difficult time with picking our name. It was on the 28th od December 2011, on a cold winter night, when we searched through the essence of life to find our overlord Fireborn, the deity who will rise from the fire and stone to bring Death and Destruction! Pyroxene, as he is called, is also a name for a rock that is present in volcanic lavas. We think that it was the best choice to name our band.
There are so many genres and sub-genres today that it is hard to keep track of them all. So what was it that made you pick the style you play?
-It’s definetly because of the music that we feel and the amount of heavy metal, that is present in us. It is called Solid metal! We play old school-like heavy metal mixed with modern elements from different genres.
What influences you in creating your music? What is/has been the single greatest influence?
-We have a lot of diverse influences. From heavy metal to trash, from groove to doom metal and then some in folk music from our area.
We would say our single greatest influence are Judas Priest, with their overpowered vocals and awesome guitar riffs.
How important is it to have a message as a band?
-A lot. Pyroxene is not just music, its an idea. Idea of a different world, a world that may happen. In our lyrics we try to send our message and we hope you will understand it.
Is image an important factor to the bands appearance?
-Definitely, we try to portray the idea of Pyroxene as a whole. And it is also good, because then more people will remember you in this world full of bands.
How important is it to have an album cover that stands out to grab people’s attention in this day and age?
-It is quite important, since we live in a visual world. Album cover, next to the logo of the band, is the most recognizable thing from the band so it has to be as awesomerer as possible!
What kind of respect do you get from your local scene?
-We are slowly but surely gaining respect in our local scene. It is hard to achieve a good level of reputation in a small country with a lot of musicians. We have had more success in other countries.
How massive is it to get response from places you have never heard of?
-We feel honored to have come so far to have people from all over the world supporting us. We have a long way to go, lots of places to visit but we can assure you we cant wait to experience them.
Is playing live still a great way to get new fans to discover you?
-We believe so. It is the most pure way of sharing our music and getting new fans. They get the experience directly which is the most important thing.
What does the future have in its womb?
-Hopefully a lot of concerts. After we release or EP album we will have a tour of concert across Slovenia and after that an European tour. What comes next is in the book that our overlord Pyroxene holds in his fiery hands.
