REIGN OF BULLETS

Sweden has become like the old wild West where people shoot their guns right, left and center and you never know when you will end up in a REIGN OF BULLETS. Anders Ekdahl ©2018

When the band came into creation what was the main purpose for it?
-When we first started, the purpose of the band was to play a lot of Classic Rock Covers. We did for a while, then we found out playing covers just didn`t do it for us anymore. Also most of the guys were already playing some of their own songs from their old band, When I (Q) first heard it I was like Hey!? what song is that? it sounds damn good. Well uhhh its an old song we used to play was the awnser. so we actually reworked some of the old songs and started writing our own material as well.

How hard is it to come up with a sound that is all yours? What bits’n’pieces do you pick up from other stuff to make it your sound?
-Well I have to say it wasnt really that hard for us to find our own sound, every member in the band has had really diffrent influences. Dyon for one really likes Iron Maiden, Kevin is influenced by A7X, Megadeth and Judas Priest. Martijn is into some really heavy bands like Whitechapel and Machine Head. Sonny is more into older rock Like Guns `n Roses and more technical metal, he even had some Flamenco Guitar classes. Quint likes almost every kind of metal, from Behemoth to A7X to AC/DC and Guns n Roses.
When you put all of those influences in a mix something really good came out. Also all our songs are different you can hear wich one was written by who, if you listen carefully that is.

I have no idea what kind of creative process you guys go through but how hard is it to record and release new songs?
-Oh man you don’t want to know.
Sometimes you write a song in five minutes, sometimes we are working months on a song.
It usually starts with someone saying they got a new Guitar riff or a piece of lyric or something and you just start to work on that.
some songs almost write themselves, like Russian Roulette it just rolled off so easily.
Other like Thunder and Lightning took us months to write, we`re Always trying to make songs more interesting, sometimes there is a problem with the lyrics or you just dont know where to go anymore.
so then you put it down for a couple of weeks and think about it. and someday when you`re on the toilet or something it just hits you like. YEAH thats a good idea, Shit it gotta write this down.

Today technology allows you to record at home and release your music digitally. But in doing so is there a risk that you release only single songs because that is what is demanded to stay atop and therefore you end up killing the album for example?
-Being able to record at home is great, but going to studio in our opinion is better. Everyone is there for one purpose so there are no distractions.
it also helps to have a fresh ear listen to your song from time to time.
Sometimes we release a single song but those are mainly rough mixes, we had the E.P. released on the internet but the full album is still coming.
if your fans are patient they will wait for the album to come out.
I for one believe that it is better to release a full album in one go, because you hit your fans with lots of new material, instantly making it more interesting to listen to.

I for one feel that the change in how people listen to music today, by downloading it and expecting to get it for free, will kill music as we know it. What kind of future is there for music?
-Well we all see music as art, and we want to show our art to as many people as we can and hope they enjoy it.
We make music because we love doing that, it is our hobby and we would continue making music anyway.
I dont care pirate our CD, show it to your friends, let them listen to it, just enjoy the art.
If you can afford to buy it then buy it, just to support us or buy a T-shirt or something.
We`d rather see our fans at the live shows.
Look we dont have the intention to make music to make money.
we make music because we love making music, simple as that.
And when you are really good at something people will start paying for it anyway.
Music will Always exist I dont know a single person who does not like somekind of music.
Actually we think piracy is a good thing, people who download your album wouldn`t have bought it anyway at least now they can listen to it giving you a bigger audience.

What kind of responses do you get to your music? What has been the thing that has gotten the most attention?
-So far all the responses we got were really positive, sometimes people critisize you but they`re mostly family anyway haha.
I think the song that got the most attention is either Love (killed by a friend) or Spread my wings.
People are saying yeah I liked Spread my wings a lot because it is Heavy but still beautiful somehow and they feel really connected to the lyrics.
We get the same responses tot Love (killed by a friend) wich is a softer song but really gets angry at the end (thats what is the song is about anyway).
The thing getting the most attention?
Well we got picked up by Profane records and All metal agency and now we are sitting here aren`t we?

We live in a world where there are no real distances between people communicating anymore. What has been the most surprising contact so far?
-The most suprising thing for us that people all the way from India started reacting on our facebook page saying the really liked the E.P. and cant wait for the album.
Maybe when we get more responses we`ll have to do a tour there.
You never know.

Does playing in a band make you feel like you are a part of a greater community? What has music brought with it that you would have otherwise missed out on?
-We have made a lot of friends playing in a band, and yes somehow you are part of a greater community.
There are no strangers in the Metal/Rock scene, just friends you haven`t met yet.
Music brought us to a lot of places we`d otherwise wouldn`t had seen.
If I (Q) had not started in a marching band all those years ago I would not have been a singer in a metal band right now, its strange how life goes sometimes.
If Sonny did not take those flamenco guitar lessons I would have never met him since his teacher was my father in law.
and now we`re here

What is the live scene like for you? Do you feel that playing live helps building a bigger following?
-We love playing live, thats where you can actually show your worth and really be in contact with your fans.
if you play a live show for a couple hundred people and next time they all bring a friend or family member too see you it just feels great.
you can see the crowd getting bigger and bigger after every show you play, so to awnser you question yes playing live absolutely helps build a bigger following.

What plans do you have for the future?
-Well we are working hard on our first album but in the meantime we are also working on a second album.
so what we would like to do is really build up a bigger fanbase and try and do more international shows (looking at you Germany and Poland beware)
We are also reworking our show to make it more theatrical so the crowd can get more immersed in the entire happening.
We hope to play on some festivals in the future, and also we will just keep making music and see what happens next.
Thanks very much for having us!
