RESURGENCE

With so many cool bands out there to check out I offer you some minor guidance by introducing you to VOICES BY RESURGENCE. Anders Ekdahl ©2018

What kind of vision did you have when you started and how has it changed over the years?
-Our vision was to get these songs out of our heads and record them all, while having fun…The idea hasn’t really changed, because we still want to have fun

Does location mean anything today? We used to hear about how it was all location, location, location back in the days if you wanted to make it big? That you had to come from a certain place to be sure to make it.
-For playing live it is, coming from a regional town we do not have a variety or big range of venues to play at, compared to major cities, like Brisbane or Melbourne. That is why we have this idea of using the online services to push our reach to people overseas on all over Australia

What is it like to be a in a band? What kind of feelings do that bring about?
-Being in a band is pretty great, as you get to hang out and make music with a good bunch of decent guys that you would never have met under normal circumstances, plus you all share the same thin.. Making awesome music. Of course there is some tension at times between us sometimes but we get together, have a beer or two and sort it out.

What kind of feedback have you had on your music, your latest album and in general? How important is feedback?
-We have had a range of positive feedback on our album Voices, with overwhelming compliments on our sound and taking listeners back to the 90s and making them feel nostalgic. Feedback is always important, as it helps guide you in what works and what doesn’t work.

How do you know that you have written a “hit” song? Is there a particular feeling you get when you know that this is the one, this is the big “make it song”?
-Well it’s hard to tell if you have written a hit song, but I guess you can tell from the feedback you constantly get about a song or songs off your album if they’re a hit. We don’t get a general feeling of a song that is the ‘big one’, as we all have different opinions on our music with the broad range of influences.

As I am no musician I will never got to know the difference of analogue and digital. Can you explain the difference to me? what are the pros and cons of analogue V/S digital?
-Well analogue has a bigger sound, with the performance having to be precise or you have a massive budget to compensate for extra additions or corrections. Digital is generally cheaper and is a hell of a lot easier to. It’s all down to your engineer at the end of the day. We were pretty lucky with Al at Old Dog Studios (recorded digitally), as he made the process for us very easy and simple, compared to some horror stories we have heard about engineers and recording in general.

What is it like to have people you never met liking your music and possibly singing along to it?
-Awesome and exciting. It is just a great feeling just to think that someone out there is listening to us, enjoying the music and becoming a fan

How important are lyrics to you guys? Do you have any messages that you want to get forward?
-Lyrics are a good way to tell a story and to have people have their take on the lyrics through their own interpretation in the words and their feelings.
The lyrics on Voices various from the rise and fall of Punk to mental health, with dealing with depression, anxiety and knowing what the story is inside your head, and learning to fight that little voice in your head that puts you down.

I love a really cool cover but I get the feeling that today with all this digital uploading/downloading people aren’t that concerned about artwork. How do you feel?
-Funny you say that, we have been going back and forth on artwork for the past 6 months, and getting closer to locking something down. We think you still need to have something really cool and/or meaningful with your artwork, so if someone saw it in a store or on a rack, they will know it’s your album. We still think some people are still concern with artwork even though their album is released digitally, but you would also have people who are the opposite.

What does the future hold?
-More shows, getting out there and just having fun along the way. Watch this space, as Resurgence is coming.
