RHENIUM

To me it seems like a tireless task being a one person band. You have to do it all by yourself but he woman behind RHENIUM seem to think otherwise. And I am not argue with her. Anders Ekdahl ©2016

What is this band really all about?
-I have started this project in 2014 after deciding that it was worth trying to make music on my own, due to not being able to find reliable band members. It took me a while to find the confidence to release an EP as I did not know whether I was going to be good enough on my own. I must say I now enjoy doing my own things as it gives me the freedom to express myself to the fullest!

Is there a difference in people’s attitude towards you if you don’t come from a cool place like LA or NY or London?
-I believe that Social Media can be a very helpful tool in order for artists to spread their music, so even if you live in a small village, you might be able to reach out to more people than an artist who lives in a big city.

When you release an album that get pretty good reviews how do you follow up on that?
-“Rise Above the Sea” will be my first EP ever and it will be released on 27th March 2016. Good reviews will mean that I am going towards the right direction so for the next album I am planning on going a bit heavier but maintain my sound.

What is the biggest challenge in the creation of an album, to write the songs or to come up with really good songs?
-Whatever I write comes from my heart. I usually start experimenting with sounds that will then lead me to create a song. Writing a song is therefore the easiest part for me… Arrangements will then turn a song into a really good song!

Do you prefer working digitally or is physical still cooler?
-I don’t think this generation is ready to give up physical CDs and I agree with that. Being able to touch a CD, look through the booklet is more fascinating than just having a file on your PC. Having said that, my first EP will only be available as digital download due to lack of funds. I think digital is a great tool for unknown artists as in my case all the sales of “Rise Above the Sea” will go towards funding the next album and take things to the next level, including having physical copies.

With a sound that is being described as both this and that by fans how do you view your sound?
-I am not an operatic singer as I grew up singing Pop music. I am also more into the overall sound/feel of the song rather than amazing guitar solos, etc. People have therefore compared me to Evanescence/Lacuna Coil due to the singing style but have also defined my music as “fresh”. When I write my music, I don’t think “Oh, I really need to sound like that band!” and I believe that is the secret to uniqueness.

How important are the lyrics and what message do you want to purvey?
-Lyrics say a lot about the person who writes them but they also allow the listener to feel like certain songs belong to them. I want my fans to feel like my songs talk about their lives too!

What part does art work for album covers play in the world of the band?
-Album cover is very important! I have bought albums in the past just because the cover inspired me a lot!

When you play live do you notice a degree of greater recognition from the fans with each new time you pass through town?
-I have not played live for this project yet. My first live performance will be on 16th April at the Northern Symphony Festival in Selby (UK). I certainly hope to get the audience to appreciate my performance and look forward to seeing me perform live again!

What do you see in the future?
-I want to look at the future in a positive way and see Rhenium as long term project! I am certainly not willing to stop any time soon!
