I am not the world’s biggest glam and sleaze fan but when it is done the right way even I take noticed and stick my nose in. As with Italian ROXIN PALACE. Interview with guitarist Crown. Anders Ekdahl ©2016
How important is the band’s name in giving out the right kind of vibe?
-It’s very important for us, both for the meaning and for the way it sounds. Roxin’ Palace sounds very R’n’r even if u don’t pay attention to the meaning indeed!
What was it that made you want to do the band?
-The band has been created by me and drummer Hell. We came from Revoltons and Elvenking, heavy metal bands from Italy! After years playing metal stuff we needed to fulfill our souls with our real roots that are based in the R N’ R!!
What is your definition of the music you play?
-Rock n’ roll music with glam, sleeze, heavy elements and crazy deep lyrics (lol)!
If you listen to ‘Freaks of Society’ you can find all of these features!
How do you arrange the tracks? Is there a method to how you arrange the songs on a record?
-Personally I write the tune with acoustic guitar most of the time! To me a song has to sound great even without arrangements! Than we arrange the song with all the band! Sometimes the song comes out at the first time without the need of many arrangements..sometimes we spend a lot of time working on vocals; other times the vocals are ok from the beginning..it depends! So we don’t have a precise method to work! It can change due to the feelings of the moment!
Where do you find your inspiration to create?
-Basically from life experiences united to the love for music!
How important is the graphic side of the band? How much thought goes into art work etc.?
-It’s very important! The drummer Hell is the guy in charge! He has wonderful ideas to create the graphic concept of the band! He drew the eagle that ‘lives’ in every Roxin’ Palace album cover! We pay a lot of attention to what we want to communicate to the eyes of a fan! It should have the same effect that our music gives! So graphics has go hand in hand with music!
Do you find that there is a greater freedom in working with digital than working with physical?
-I think you have more potential working with digital! You can reach people faster and more people than with physical..but that said there are some limitations that i’ll explain in the next question.
Are there any limitations to digital?
Can you do everything you like?
There are two big limitations: digital killed the magic in buying and album, smell the booklet of a cd or having a record…old guys of rock n’ roll know what i mean..The other limitation is that it’s true that you can reach more population but everyone can do it, even mediocre bands and the market is saturated! You can’t listen to everything out there so you could miss a lot of masterpieces! We have a lot of bands in italy that are ignored and make better records than the famous ones! That’s my personal opinion indeed
Is there a scene to speak of for a band like yours? Where do you fit in?
-We consider ourselves to be part of R n’ r scene in general because we have a lot of elements as said in question 3!
What does the future hold?
-Other records, a lot of shows and pure R N’ R!!
