SABOTAGE

With so many cool bands out there to check out I offer you some minor guidance by introducing you to SABOTAGE. Answered by Cyril John Thomas – Rhythm Guitars. Anders Ekdahl ©2019

We all come into music with our own baggage. We want different things from the music. How does the vision you had for the band when you started compare to the vision you have for the band today? What is this band really all about? What do you want with your music?
-We all didn’t have the same vision but we all had one thing in common that we all weren’t happy about what’s happening around us. So that’s how we started our musical journey. The major difference back then and now is we all have a common goal or vision. We are 5 young guys raging about whats happening across the globe. We all feel music is the medium that we can express our feelings.
We want our music to spread all across the globe and hopefully we can tour around the world.

Is there a difference in people’s attitude towards you if you don’t come from a cool place like LA or NY or London?
-We come from the bylanes of Bassien in Mumbai, people don’t care where you come from, what you do, what’s your race. If they feel your music they connect with you. I guess that’s the beauty of metal music.

When you release an album that get pretty good feedback, how do you follow up on that? How important is that I as a fan can identify album to album?
-As this is our Debut EP, Our next plan is to is to write our full length debut record somewhere in the next year. Its an evolving process we go through when we write a record. Im sure the next year has a lot in store for us to grow as musicians and write an even better record and we are stoked to get back to writing new material. Tour plus newer material is very important for our fans as this is the only way they understand the direction we head in with our music!

What is the biggest challenge in the creation of an album? How do you write the really cool songs?
-Generally, Cyril or Yash come up with riffs or solo ideas and if everyone finds it interesting we work our way and build the song from there on crafting parts into one bone battering skull crushing track!

I saw Dave Grohl’s documentary about Sound City and it made me wonder what it is about analogue recording that you don’t get with digital? Have you ever recorded analogue?
-I think its all about finding the right resources and if you have the budget, analog recording can help you achieve the best natural sounding tones. With Digital, its more about convenience and the ability to experiment more using plug ins at a very pocket friendly budget. Unfortunately, we havent had the chance to go analog (not sure if india has studios that record metal bands using analog).

What is it like to sit there with a finished album? Do you think much what people will think of it?
-Man! it’s really nerve wrecking to sit with a finished EP. Yes, we do think how the listeners will perceive it. But, we also realize that its a byproduct of what we want to convey with our music and its always fun to go in to the studio to record, because that means we can drink away and enjoy the banters (because having fun is important too)

How important are the lyrics and what message do you want to purvey?
-We believe Lyrics are the most important part of any song. Cyril and Anand have carved out hard hitting lyrics for this EP. People may find it raw or unpolished and thats the beauty of it. The rage has been channeled through the lyrics!

Ever since I first got into metal the art work has been a main motivator in buying a record. What part does art work for album covers play in the world of the band
-Its a catalyst! It is a work of art that attracts the eye with a message through the album! Our artworks have been sketched based on ideas that the band generates! Its a very creative process that we enjoy!

When you play live do you notice a degree of greater recognition from the fans with each new time you pass through town?
-We have been fortunate to see the spike in our fans since we announced the ep release and everytime we play a gig we are happy to see new faces who generally come say hello post the gig and thats the way we connect with our listeners!

What do you see in the future?
-We have the ep release happening on August 3rd, 2019 on all digital platforms. You can also write to us on sabotageindia6@gmail.com if you would like to buy the fan packs (bundle – merch, cd/digital download codes + few goodies). We will follow the release up with a 4/5 city tour in India starting September.
