As I am not at all familiar with your band perhaps you could introduce it?
-The Scum born in 2000 after the first beginnings as a cover band released their first EP of original songs in 2003 “WELCOME” followed by “RE-EVOLUTION” in 2008 and “PAINFUL ILLUSION” in 2010. With the introduction of the third guitar and the new singer, in 2014 ENTROPIC 1.0 out where we experience a new way of making music, until “HUMANA” in 2016.
How hard was it for you guys to pick a name? What had that name have to have to fit your music?
The name was chosen because it was short and easy to remember. It has nothing to do with the first Napalm Death album, although at that time we were quite thugs !!!!!! ahhahahahaha
-What band(s) was it that turned you on to the kind of music you play? What inspires you today?
we come from very different styles of music from Pink Floyd to the Lamb of God, passing from ‘hardcore I love very much. Not forgetting the Meshuggah. Our music tries to bring together all these influences trying to always put something personal, instinctive of each of us.
What is the advantages/disadvantages of CD and vinyl these days of internet promotion where digital seems to be king?
-Today music is much more accessible via the internet and we can hear new ideas almost in real time. But we lost the excitement of waiting for the release of the vinyl or CD of our favorite band. It is true that it was expensive, but the emotion did not cost !!!
I use Spotify and Deezer but only as compliment to buying CDS (it’s easier to just have your phone or pad when your out) but I fear that soon music as we know it will be dead and buried. What are your worries as a band?
-We are currently promoting the latest Humana album, also featured in Spotify. As a band we count on portals like Spotify being a form of promotion in view of live events. It’s a time where CDs and vinyls are not sold, we trust in Spotify’s advertising !!!!!
What part does art work and lay out play? Any message that you want to bring forth with it?
-We never thought of a specific meaning about the artwork of our albums, up to “Humana”. The jellyfish with the body represented by a brain represents a manipulative entity that pollutes our minds and loses our human part, the leading element of “Humana”.
Is it a whole different way to promote a band today with all these social media channels? Or do you go about doing promotion the same way? Playing live and word of mouth.
We obviously use all forms of communication possible to promote the band, but of course the live event is what we prefer, despite the economic crisis of metal clubs.
Do you feel like you are a part of a scene, locally, nationally and internationally?
-We are working hard to assert ourselves as a national band. We are currently on promotional tours at various venues and shows in Italy, and we played in St. Petersburg with the Annihilator.
How much of a touring band are you? Is touring/gigging still a great way of spreading the word of the band?
-Is critical. Live shows is the demonstration of the strength of the band and the expression of the music and the message it wants to convey.
What will the future bring?
-For the moment we are working on new songs for the next album, in the near future we hope in so many live shows !!!!! Thanks !!
