You might not have heard of SERPENTS KISS before, but that has all changed now, hasn’t it? Anders Ekdahl ©2018
How hard was it to come up with a band name and how does the name fit the music?
-The name Serpents Kiss is taken from the song Revelations by Iron Maiden (She came to me with a serpents kiss as the eye of the sun rose on her lips). Maiden were a big influence so it seemed like a good choice for a name.
What was it that made you want to be in a band in the first place?
-I’ve played in many bands over the years, the first being Omen UK whose 1981 demo has just been released on CD for the first time (Omen UK – Dragon Flight – Obscure NWOBHM Releases).
As I am no musician I have no idea how it works, but how do you make your own music based on what influences you? What parts do you pick?
-As a guitarist I tend to sit and play around with riffs and record those that sound good. The heavier side of classical music (Mahler, Suk, Beethoven, Sibelius) and modern composers like Philip Glass have had a massive impact on me as a writer.
When you are in a band does it feel like you are a part of a worldwide movement?
-Heavy Metal is a global success so to that extent it feels like being part of something worldwide.
How important is it that you look the part in promo shots and stuff? How important is the graphic side of the band?
-Don’t really care at my age what I look like haha but I think good artwork is an important part of the set up.
What would you say influences your lyrics? How important are they?
-Life events, injustice, horror, fantasy …..I like to mix it up a bit. Lyrics are important but not as important as the music
Is the album as relevant today as it was in the 70s and 80s? Is digital killing the album?
-There will always be some new innovation round the corner so the way we listen to music is always changing. I prefer CD’s because you have something physical to relate to and the audio quality is free from compression
Where will the future of format end – digital verses physical verses whatever?
-Who knows what the future holds?
How much of a touring entity are you guys? What is a live experience with you like
-We are a non-touring entity at the moment but you never say never
What lies in the future?
-Dragon Lord is released on 01/10/2018. We already have enough material for the next album and recording will start very soon.
