If you have the chance you should stop by Biljardkompaniet in Kristianstand, Sweden May 21st to catch SLEEPWULF live. If you don’t have time or opportunity then this interview will have to do as your 101. Anders Ekdahl ©2016
How hard was it to come up with a band name and how does the name fit the music?
-Our band name Sleepwulf is actually kinda random, the name sounds good, is unique and easy to remember.
As I am new to your band perhaps a short introduction might be in order?
-Sleepwulf is the band with focus on the old school, groovy, hard rock. Inspired by legends like both Sabbath and Zeppelin but with a modern twist. Sleepwulf is rock, drenched in riffs with it’s heart from the 70’s. Hard, melodic and groovy!
As I am no musician I have no idea how it works, but how do you make your own music based on what influences you? What parts do you pick?
We make and produce our music based on what we wanna hear, what we would like to hear on a cd, radio etc.
Yes, we definitely have our influences, but we never use it as a template for creating.
When you are in a band does it feel like you are a part of a worldwide movement?
-To be honest, no.
How important is it that you look the part in promo shots and stuff? How important is the graphic side of the band?
-We don’t really have a need to look the part, on stage and in photos we have no need to live up to a certain “look”.
The graphic side is fun, it’s important to us. With that, we can work with metaphors and build up great content around our music.
What would you say influences your lyrics? How important are they?
-Whatever’s on our minds, nothing else really. Lyrics is important and as important as the music.
Is the album as relevant today as it was in the 70s and 80s? Is digital killing the album?
-Absolutely, if not even more important than before because of the insane amount of people you can reach online, and therefore more competition, and because of that you wanna do a physical footprint too. We like both digital and physical though.
Where will the future of format end – digital verses physical verses whatever?
-We hope for a good compromise between both.
How much of a touring entity are you guys? What is a live experience with you like?
-A couple of gigs later and we’re here! Haven’t had that much experience but the future will be fun!
We are a live band, our music should be heard live, it’s were all music should be heard, to get the full experience. We like it loud and we like to give people a great show.
What lies in the future?
-We hope to rock a lot of live gigs in the future, give people a good dose of Sleepwulf.
Between gigs we’re getting ready to record our full length album. Keep your eyes open!
