STYGGELSE is a Swedish band that should be looked into. Anders Ekdahl ©2014
How important is a band’s name? Should it be a declaration of intent?
-I say the name is like a cloak, make sure you have the shoulders to wear it. If we were to have a name that described intent my vote would be “Drinking Beer and Worship Satan”.
Do you feel that you in some way honour the heritage of early Bathory with your sound or are there other band’s that your feel closer to in sound?
-The heritage of playing it like being on fire is Bathory and an enormous door…
Would you say that you have a Swedish black metal sound? How would you define your sound in the context of black metal?
-…slamming in the depths of hell!
Do you agree that digital is killing the music scene as we know it now?
-When it comes to recording the music it has some stupid effects on the genuinity of the sound recorded. I feel like a lot of modern recordings seems to strive after 11´s in volume, everywhere. leaving no room for groove. It’s a pity. But used with skills and a sensitive ear it must be so much handier to work with. If you by digital mean being able to listen to bathorys “the golden walls of heaven” on your phone while you take a shit at work. That’s just great.
Do you as a black metal band even care what people think about STYGGELSE? How misanthropic can you be and still interact with an audience?
-I would really make a bad liar if I claimed not to care while answering these questions for publication. I couldn’t care less about misanthropy tough… So the world doesn’t evolve around you, let it be that humans are electrified meat robots striving for petty survival. If one does not like other people, you won’t be in an audience, or on stage for that matters… We are all phantom sleepwalkers, morons and apes. All with ambitions..
Are social media true underground or just a mainstream way of fucking up things for the true underground? Can you be true black metal and still be active on social media? How far can you take the whole “I don’t care, I’m so evil” thing before it starts becoming a cliché?
-Being able to inform with short notice of a changed venue or a gig we have accepted for the night. I See no harm in that at all for whatever underground it is concerned. It is just common sense not to post pictures of every cup of coffee you had in the studio… Ignorance is sometimes bliss. The cliché is getting old.
How pleased are you with your with “No Return”. Did it turn out the way you wanted it to? How does it differ from your last record?
-More power, more potency! “Heir today God Tomorrow” was yesterday…
When you work in the studio what kind of process do you go through? Do you come in all prepared or do you improvise?
-We prepare a lot! But not as much as our last boss and owner Daniel of Unexploded Records. We were trained monkeys with bullet belts under his eternal command. Now we are free and open for new cooperators for releases.
What part would you like the producer to have? How important in is the producer?
-Press play on tape
What can we expect from you in the future?
-A new single is being planned early 2014 to manifest the new line up. Some shows can be expected aswell…
