I don’t know about you guys but winter in southern Sweden sucks big time. You might imagine a landscape clad in snow. Think again. Here it rains and the wind lashes at us all season long. So when spring comes the SUNBURST is most welcomed. Answers by Gus Drax.
Could you please introduce the band to us?
-Sure. We are Sunburst from Greece and we play Meodic Progressive Metal. We are
Gus Drax – Guitars
Vasilis Georgiou – Vocals
Nick Grey – Bass
Kostas Milonas – Drums
When you form how easy is it to pick up a thread as to where your sound is going??
-Yes it was pretty easy. We had a very clear vision in our heads of what we wanted to play and how we wanted to sound. And you can hear this on Fragments OF Creation.
How do you explain the meaning of the band name?
-Music that can make the Sun explode! haha I’m just kidding. There is not a specific meaning behind our name. We were just searching for a cool sounding name that will give a good idea of how the band plays and sounds. We knew from the start that the word Sun would be a part of it
and one day Vasilis called me all excited and told me “Hey Gus I think I found it. What do you think about Sunburst” and that was it. We had a name.
How important is image to the band? What impression do you want the fans to get of the band?
-Nowadays the image of the band plays a very important role. That’s the truth. We want to show how serious and passionate we are with our music.
I am a huge fan of LP art work. How important is it to have the right art work for your album?
-Yes, Vasilis did a great job with the artwork. Another important thing for sure. The front cover for example, its the first thing you see before bying an album. Its as important as a books cover. They always say ” Don’t judge a book by its cover”. Same thing goes with a cd for sure but its very important your cover to give
a good first impression and to make someone buy it.
How do you avoid being affected by the hype likes on youtube and facebook can create on social media?
-Well, likes are good they show that people…like what you do. But we understand that it’s just this..”likes”. To us it’s not a form of success. Just a way to see how accepted and liked our music is.
When you play in a band does it feel like you are a part of massive community?
-To me no.. To me a band feels and must feel like a family.
How important is it to be signed to label today? What can they do that you cannot do on your own?
-When it is a good label yes,its important to be signed to one. The label will promote your album way better than you on your own. They have the “connections” the “know how” and the experience. And that why we are so pleased and happy with Inner Wound recordings. They know what they do and they do a great job with the band.
What will the future bring?
-Shows and a lot of new music!
