THE DIRTY DENIMS is a band in the vein of The Hellacopters and those kinda bands. Answers by Mirjam (singer/guitarist) Anders Ekdahl ©2018
I am a word buff so when I find a band name that excites me I want to know the reason behind the choice. So how did you pick your name?
-We love the all girl rock ‘n roll band The Donnas, Dirty Denim is a song of them. And our jeans is always smelly too.
There are so many genres and sub-genres today that it is hard to keep track of them all. So what was it that made you pick the style you play?
-We call it Happy Hardrock, and it’s a mix of (Australian) hardrock, (Swedish) rock ‘n roll, (Detroit’s) power pop and punkrock.
We have a lot of idols in those genres, such as AC/DC, The Hellacopters, Imperial State Electric, The Romantics and Joan Jett, so we love it!
What influences you in creating your music? What is/has been the single greatest influence?
-AC/DC is a big influence, and mosts of the texts are about daily things and/or about the life of rockers.
How important is it to have a message as a band?
-We have the message to not always have a message, haha! We make Happy Hardrock, so we want that people are forgetting about the not-so-nice things in life when they listing to our songs or visit our concert. Being free and happy!
Is image an important factor to the bands appearance?
-Our ‘image’ is a natural result of how we stand in life: don’t do difficult when it isn’t needed.
So most of the things you’ll see of us are happy and easy-going. It’s only rock ‘n roll but I like it!
How important is it to have an album cover that stands out to grab people’s attention in this day and age?
-It’s important to have nice artwork people want to buy. We like our own artwork a lot, and we are still selling a lot CD’s and vinyl.
If the artwork isn’t nice, then they will only listen on Spotify or something like that. We want to create something collectable!
What kind of respect do you get from your local scene?
-Enough. But we even get more and more positive feedback from UK and Germany, that are also very rocking countries.
How massive is it to get response from places you have never heard of?
-That is SO amazing! We get orders on our webshop from small villages around the world and it’s fun to search for the address on Google maps and see where people are living and playing our music.
Is playing live still a great way to get new fans to discover you?
-Yes! And festivals and playing supports are the best ways. And we also found a great way to let people discover our music on Facebook, I know a lot about online marketing and that’s helping too.
But okay… playing live is still the most fun way, and you can look the people in the eyes, I love that.
What does the future have in its womb?
