With so many cool bands out there to check out I offer you some minor guidance by introducing you to THEM GUNS. Anders Ekdahl ©2018
What kind of vision did you have when you started and how has it changed over the years?
-When we first started we just wanted to make real music that used instruments and would stand the test of time. Over the years we have evolved into our own unique style that is really original and doesnt sound like anyone else really. Which is pretty neat when there is so much music to compare to.
Does location mean anything today? We used to hear about how it was all location, location, location back in the days if you wanted to make it big? That you had to come from a certain place to be sure to make it.
-Yes and no… in terms of getting the music out and available, i think it is now easier to do so. However, being in a big city i think makes it harder because there is so many other activities for people to do.. i feel like playing in small towns with a few bars with live music, and not much else.. is better for getting people out to live shows.
What is it like to be a in a band and to get to tour all over the world? What kind of feelings do that bring about?
-Well. We’re still pretty excited about it because we haven’t really done a whole lot of touring. Having shows more nights than not out of the week is something we are working towards. We would love to be able to pull in a crowed in every city we go through.
What kind of feedback have you had on your music, your latest album and in general? How important is feedback?
-We generally get really good reviews from our live shows. People or often curious why they havent heard about us. That kind of feedback really keeps us inspired.
How do you know that you have written a “hit” song? Is there a particular feeling you get when you know that this is the one, this is the big “make it song”?
-Well.. when you hear it on the radio as a “hit song” i suppose..
As I am no musician I will never got to know the difference of analogue and digital. Can you explain the difference to me? what are the pros and cons of analogue V/S digital?
-Analog is using all kinds of equipment to get the recording done.. in a more organic matter.. digital, everything goes through a computer and gets processed. There are pros and cons to both. Digitally sure makes it a lot easier though.
What is it like to have people you never met liking your music and singing along to it at gigs?
– When that happens, it is the best feeling you can get as a musician.. still waiting for that to be a more common theme in towns we don’t play at consistantly. Would be great for that to happen in a city we have never been to before..
How important are lyrics to you guys? Do you have any messages that you want to get forward?
-The lyrics are very important, we try not to get too political, so people can come and enjoy themselves without getting turned off because of the song meaning.. but also not come out with comepletely meaningless bullshit.
I love a really cool cover but I get the feeling that today with all this digital uploading/downloading people aren’t that concerned about artwork. How do you feel?
-I really love album artwork myself. I still by vinyl LPs or albums when i can. We put a lot into our first album art.. i think we will continue to make that a priority in the future as well.
What does the future hold?
-Hopefully a lot of touring and festivals. I believe we are booked to play a festival on a cruiseship, called Shiprocked, in 2020
