The last time I heard UNHERZ is was so impressed but I did not interview them spot on. That is corrected this time around. Anders Ekdahl ©2016
How hard is it to come up with a new album that will exceed the previous one? How pleased are you with this new one?
-Hey. I’m Andy from the Band UNHERZ.First of all I have to say that my english is terrible. This is maybe one reason why we sing in German. The new album is great; we really love it. We changed the studio and the producer. It was a fantastic atmosphere to work in the Studio 23. We had a lot of fun; but it also was hard work. We developed us a lot and this you can hear.
I often wonder how people discover that they can do what they do. How did you discover that you can sing and play instruments?
-Can we? we all learned our instruments by our self. Kurt Cobain und Kirk H. and Jimmy Hendrix are our teacher. I was a little child and I loved The King Elvis. So i had to learn guitar.
I was 11 years old and my parents left the home for maybe 3 hours. It was Sunday. We had a radio channel where people can change things. My dad bought me a new PC. and i heard the man on the radio: I offer a guitar and i want a PC. So i called the radio station: Hey here is Andy a have a PC and i want the guitar. My dad heard me in this show. He turned around; but he was toooo late. I had my new guitar…OK Guitar price 50€; PC 500€… Jesus Christ my dad was not really happy..Rock n Roll
When did it become a revelation that you can do this and maybe get paid for having fun?
-We still don’t earn money with our music. But if I’m true: We shit on the money, it is much more worth to have a crowd of people in front of you who loves your music.
When you spend an amount of your life on a band does it ever feel like you have wasted time, that you have fought one too many windmills?
-Ok we have that luck, that we are not only a band; we are friends. So we never wasted time. We really enjoy every minute, when we spend time together. But you are right: the music business is a dirty bitch and sometimes it is hard to go on. But it is our dream and so we fight for it.
No matter how small or big you were as a band you will leave a legacy behind you. How do you want people to treat this legacy?
-I hope the people enjoys us and they can forget for a little time the hard life. we are a little Unherz family in which some fans married and some fans became best friends. so what do you want more?
Is digital taking away the mystery of waiting for a new album now that you can upload as soon as you have written a song?
-We are still old school. so what is digital?
How important is image in separating you from all the million different styles of metal there is out there?
-oh actually we don t care about our image. we are who we are.
Do you consider yourself a live artist or do you like to spend most of the time secluded in a studio?
-Both is really cool. in the studio you can be fuckin creative. and live is live. we are still a little nervous before the gigs, but if we play the first tone it is only party and rock n roll. this is a great feeling.
How much of a touring band are you guys? What memories do you take with you?
-we all have family with kids and work from Monday till Saturday so it is sometimes hard to play a show. mostly we take holiday to play a show. we would like to play much more than 20-30 shows/ year but the time will come:-)
What does the future hold?
-I hope a lot of Unherz, sex and rock n roll. We give speed (in German we say Vollgas
