VENUS MOUNTAINS

VENUS MOUNTAINS is a recent discovery but as I liked what I heard I wanted to interview them. Anders Ekdahl ©2018

What fascinates me is how you can still come up with new combinations of chords to make new songs and sounds that have not been heard before. What is it that fascinates you into coming up with new songs and albums?
-For Venus Mountains band is like live a new day, we try to do something new every day in our life to have new motivation to the future. And the best thing is to explore and have new crazy ideas.

How is this new recording different from the previous? How do you take your sound one step further?
-The new guitarist Mick Violence give us a new power in Venus Mountains sound but we still remain with our Venus style but harder and faster.

When you write songs about the topics you do what kind of reactions do you get? How important is it to have a message in your lyrics? What kind of topics do each song deal with? Is there a red thread to the songs?
-Sometimes no. Is very hard to reach people the final message, but we try to.. The message is very important but sometimes the music arrive first.
The topics of our songs are various, we write about our landing on the planet earth, also politics, but expecially we write about ladies and rock and roll.

Whenever I think of you I cannot help wandering off to different bands. What bands/sounds do you indentify with?
-1/3 of Motley Crue 85/89 + 1/3 of Motorhead + 1/3 of 83/86 Metallica

How did you go about choosing art work for this new album? What was important to have in it?
-We think about our landing on this planet, we put the king of our planet Mr Black Snake and we give our ideas to a great italian painter, Francesca Baerald and she did the rest.

Something that scares me a bit is this I hear from more and more bands that they aren’t that bothered with art work anymore because people today download rather than buy physical. To me the whole point is to have art work that matches the music. I don’t know how many times I’ve been disappointed by weak art work to an otherwise cool album. What’s your opinion on this subject?
-We try to do our best in every single thing we make for the Venus Mountains band and I think that the cover art of your album is like your business card, it must represent you.

How do you come up with song titles? What do they have to have to fit the songs?
-I used to work in a different way, first of all I write the main riff on my guitar, after that I decide the title that the music suggest to me. And at the end I write the rest of the song and lyrics.

I use Spotify and Deezer but only as compliment to buying CDS (it’s easier to just have your phone or pad when you’re out) but I fear that soon music as we know it will be dead and buried. What are your worries as a band?
-The music business change very fast and we have to run with him… The future will be music video and live and we have to go in that direction. We are tired to cry that people don’t buy cds, we know that and we try to offer our music in some different way.

How much of a live band are you? How important is playing live?
-Play live at the moment is everything, a good show is the only way to continue to do music in my opinion.

What lies in the future?
-Many super news and new live show to announce, also a tour very far. Keep follow us on our website, social to have our last updates about it. Thank you for your interview. See you soon.
