From what I understand you guys have been round some time now yet this is the first I hear of you. What have I done wrong to have missed out on you?
-Well the reason is that we went on a hiatus after our promo 2008.We did minimal promotion on this one. In fact it’s better now, we came back with full force.
In Greek mythology there are some great battles. What part does war play in the aesthetic of WAR POSSESSION?
-As far as our music is concerned we definitely strive for our music to have a warlike feeling or atmosphere. We are inspired by global warfare that has taken place throughout different eras, of course ancient battles that have taken place in Greece are influential to us ,but not solely…
This is a question that I tend to ask every Greek extreme metal band. Why do we see so many great extreme metal bands making it out of Greece yet nobody seems to make it any big?
-Well there is a variety of reasons. First of all some bands that have the chops to do it don’t devote themselves a 100% to their bands. Second some persons have a totally hobby-oriented, if I can put it this way approach. These things certainly don’t help. The production values have been improved around here, and bands like us and dead congregation, embrace of thorns, nocturnal vomit, serpent noir e.t.c are the living proof. I think we have a killer scene but in the end of the day nothing and none will sponsor anyone to do metal here in Greece and as you know extreme metal doesn’t pay the bills…
Everything seems divided by different eras. You got your Florida death. Your Swedish death. Your Gothenburg death. Norwegian black metal etc. What era does entice you the most?
-Well these tags are a thing of the past. In my view we do things the way they sound best to us regardless of tags. We don’t think we can get pigeonholed to a certain sound i.m.o Florida death metal.F.e . My influences expand themselves from classic thrash to blackest black metal
What kind of scene is there today in Greece for extreme metal? Do the bands active interact with one another?
-Well there are you know groups of bands being friendlier to each other. There are good bands and worse bands, but the overall scene is definitely a lot better than let’s say 8 years ago.
Is there an aesthetic to follow when you play the kind of metal that you do? Are the images and art work that would not sit so well with your metal?
-Well a frozen lake or a mountains or any kind of religion is not a part of our imageries. We present things from a warlike point of view. We are interested and we are affiliated with war images and battles from all different eras of mankind.
How conscious are you of what you write? How much weeding out do you have to do to get to the core of the songs?
-I try to be totally in solitude and unaffected by any kind of external influence, this is the way it works for WAR POSSESSION.I work the majority of riffs and structures alone and then I present them to the rest of the band.
When you release something how important are the format on which it is released? Are you old school physical format?
-Well,cd id what gets more widespread but vinyl is what I prefer most, basically because of its warm sound and better presentation of the entire artwork.
What does playing live mean to you? What do you get out of playing live?
-We haven’t played live so far with WAR POSSESSION, but we are eager to do so and we will do it soon. As for the rest of the live stuff I have performed I feel a sense of release and I transmit my feelings to the audience. Well it’s better than what I can say actually.
What kind of future would you like to see?
-Well as far as the overall future is concerned ,no matter if it affects my band as well, I believe that it would be ideal for the world to extinct, disappear, whatever, because I believe there would be no decent future under these circumstances. It’s way too fucked up to be salvaged….Until this kind of apocalypse takes place feel free to contact:firstname.lastname@example.org (get in touch for merch and further questions)
