ZARPA

In a world were there are so many bands to keep track of I want to bring my two cents in presenting you to this interview with ZARPA.. Anders Ekdahl ©2019

You have one of these names that do not really tell what kind of metal you play. How hard was it to come up with the name?
-Hello!! When we started making music the styles were not important, each band had their personality and we wanted to have our own and we still think the same thing, Zarpa is just Zarpa, there is no more secret.
The name of Zarpa arose spontaneously, it was something intuitive, without thinking too much.

How do you introduce the band to people that are new to your music?
-If I had to present my music to new people, I would say that we make a hard, but melodic music, with texts that speak with the heart, our music does not try to be a copy, it is true and direct.

We all carry baggage with us that affects us in one way or another but what would you say have been the single greatest influence on your sound?
-All musicians are influenced by what we have heard. We have been influenced by all the music of Rock from the 60s to the end of the 70s, the pioneering bands of Rock and Hard Rock. Bands like Deep Purple, Led Zeppellin, UFO, Boston, Judas Priest and many more

What is the scene like in your area? Is it important that there is some sort of local scene for a band to develop or can a band still exist in a vacuum of no scene/no bands?
-The scene in our area is quite good, there are many lovers of this type of music and styles, we try to stay alive even though the TV and Radio media do not help much. The bands today survive because there are followers who still support them, it is very important that there are fans, they are part of the show

Something I have often wondered about is if you feel that you are part of something bigger and greater when you play in a band, that you are part of a movement sort of?
-Firstly I play in a band because inside me there is something that leads me to do it, if I am part of something bigger it will be something that I do not control, in all the worlds the perfect union does not exist, but sometimes in the shows and outside of them we get moments of union with our fans that in many occasions end up being our friends.

When you play the sort of music you play I guess you cannot have birds and bees on the cover of your album? What is a great album cover to you?
-ok! Birds are predators and bees are fierce fighters, could be on a cover perfectly if it is properly, for me a good cover is the one that comes suddenly to your mind without premeditating any idea, this is how I I work, everything flows alone, almost unconsciously.

What is your opinion on digital verses physical? Is digital killing music?
-The video killed the radio star !!! Now the video is death, it’s something that is not new, progress is always finished with beautiful things and we can only follow it even though sometimes we do not like it

What kind live scene is there for bands like yours?
-Good!! We are a free band, we do not want to be in the dirty business of music, we would stop being authentic. We only need to make our music known, but in a more real way. Those who discover us are loyal forever. Due to the lack of publicity, we will not be able to fill stadiums, but at each concert we savor the reality of being loved and feel the encouragement of our fans almost in our noses.

When you play live is it a happening or do you see it more as a party?
_when I play live, I live it as a special event, for me the party is something else, every concert becomes a mixture of adrenaline, responsibility, concentration and much pleasure

What would you like to see the future bring?
-First good health, having many musical projects with Zarpa, continue creating music and being able to be on stage for many more years until the extinction of mediocrity
