zarpaSpain might not have gone that far in the recent Euro championship but when it comes to hardrock they have ZARPA that are still going strong. Anders Ekdahl ©2016

When the band came into creation what was the main purpose for it?
-The band began in 1978, The purpose was to communicate ideas, thoughts , release the inner energy , a great adventure , go against , to feel the freedom of choice, to express rebelliousness , be creative and not destructive, to start a fantastic way to life

How hard is it to come up with a sound that is all yours? What bits’n’pieces do you pick up from other stuff to make it your sound?
-To have our own sound naturally We had to work very hard for years and without looking at the other bands for make it.
– We try to compose from our own inspiration

I have no idea what kind of creative process you guys go through but how hard is it to record and release new songs?
-The process is somewhat lengthy but simple, one year of composition, six months of work with the band and two weeks in the recording studio. It is a system that works very well. Every two years we release albums

Today technology allows you to record at home and release your music digitally. But in doing so is there a risk that you release songs too soon, before they are fully ready to be launched at an audience?
-In our case it is not, we usually we make a lot of songs and our label, does a very thorough selection.

I for one feel that the change of how people listen to music today, by downloading it and expecting to get it for free, will kill music as we know it. What kind of future is there for recorded music?
-During the 60 years that has the marketing of music have been many types of playback formats. Today the sale of CDs especially for young people has disappeared, but downloads online maybe in about 20 years also disappear. All this is unpredictible, but surely if there is still interest in the future to listen music, appear new forms of reproduction.

What kind of responses have you had to your recorded music? What has been the thing that has gotten the most attention?
-We have a stable audience who always buy our records, but we are taking every day more fans around the world. As we do not very large editions of number of copies, sales are going well.
What has attracted most attention is our vide clip “Esto es Heavy Metal” which has 1,172,000 views on youtube

We live in a world where there are no real distances between people communicating anymore. What has been the most surprising contact so far?
-Receive messages from China, Korea and Thailand fans

Do you feel like you are a part of a greater community playing in a band?
-I feel as if playing in a marginalized community. We are in the Underground in an area that has prohibited access to the general public.

What is the live scene like for you? Do you feel that playing live helps building a bigger following?
-Being on stage is the most deep moment is the moment when the music is poisoning me, it is a mixture of nerves and pleasure, downloading final energy, all this makes me more happy and makes me bigger

What plans do you have for the future?
-We will continue with our projects, performances, dissemination of new work, recording video clip, and we begin to work with the composition of the following work. This is a wheel that can not stop; this is the metal wheel, Thanks!
