Downcast – Catharsis

Much acclaimed emotive punks downcast return with a thunderous new single and video, Catharsis

Hailing from Bristol and formed in the Spring of 2018, downcast carve out driven melodic bursts of infectious pop-punk laced with truly heart-wrenching lyrics and a poignant delivery. The much-revered quintet cite The Wonder Years, Casey, and Nothing, Nowhere, as influences, yet if you dig even deeper into the band’s layered sound, you’ll uncover a slew of nuances and undertones.

By the end of 2018, downcast were armed with their engrossing self-titled debut EP. The record picked up warm praise from Kerrang! Magazine, Moshville, Maximum Volume Music, and Punktastic, to name just a few, and Alex Baker from Kerrang Radio widely supported the EP on his Fresh Blood show, regularly playing tracks from the record. As word spread, downcast went on to share stages with the likes of Light Years, Coast to Coast and The Young Hearts.

The tuneful heartbreakers are now ripe to kick on even further. The fivesome have recently recorded their breath-taking new single, Catharsis, with esteemed producer Ian Sadler (Roam, Gender Roles). Vocalist Liam Edwards remarks about the single: “‘Catharsis’ is about being in a relationship with a toxic person and not realising the severity of their abuse until you’ve left the situation. The line ‘I always wondered why the songs I love didn’t sound the same when I was with you’ refers to someone wearing you down to the point where you don’t even enjoy the things that used to make you happy.” downcast will play a series of shows this Summer and are set to announce details of further singles very soon. Stay tuned to their socials for updates.
