Spiro is currently working on a brand new solo album. Born in Seattle, Mark Spiro moved to Hollywood in his early 20’s where he met Jack White, a successful and acclaimed German producer who was having an impact on the American music scene via his work with the likes of Laura Branigan, Stevie Woods, Anne Murray and David Hasselhoff. He immediately recognised Spiro’s enormous talent and brought him in as his general co-producer. In the span of three years, White cut over 100 of Spiro’s songs for various artists.
In the mid-1980’s Spiro met the German writer/producer Harold Faltermeyer, best known for the track ‘Axel F’ from the film ‘Beverly Hills Cop’. Faltermeyer was a fan of Spiro’s writing and production skills and asked him to write a song for a new film entitled ‘Top Gun’, which resulted in the track ‘Mighty Wings’ (recorded by Cheap Trick for the film). Developing a reputation in the movie industry, Spiro wrote songs for other films like ‘True Romance’ (‘In Dreams’, recorded by John Waite), ‘Selena’ (‘Only Love’, recorded by Selena) and ‘Music From Another Room’ (‘Day After Day’, recorded by Julian Lennon). His songs have also featured in TV shows such as ‘One Tree Hill’, ‘Marker’ and ‘Fame’.
Spiro is also recognised as a leading melodic rock songwriters via recordings of his songs by Heart, Cheap Trick, Giant, Bad English, John Waite, Kansas, Reo Speedwagon, Winger, Mike Reno (LoverBoy), Julian Lennon and others. He has also written for the multi-platinum country star Lila McCann and the Latin acts Luis Miguel and Emmanuel. In addition, he has produced songs by Anne Murray, Laura Branigan, John Berry, Mike Reno (Loverboy), Maria Conchito Alonso and the new artist Ruby Summer. Although he is best known for melodic rock, he is able to write for any music genre.
Having released his first solo album, ‘In Stereo’ in Germany in 1986, Spiro was subsequently signed to Interscope Records by Jimmy Iovine and released ‘Care Of My Soul’ (1994) and the melodic rock classic ‘Now Is Then, Then Is Now’ two years later. These were followed by ‘Devotion’ (1998), ‘The Stuff That Dreams Are Made Of’ (1999), ‘King of Crows’ (2003), ‘Mighty Blue Ocean’ (2005) and ‘It’s A Beautiful Life’ (2012).
