Artlantica – “Across The Seven Seas”

Artlantica – “Across The Seven Seas” (Steamhammer / SPV)

The roots of Artlantica actually go back to 1993 and the American neo classical band Artension, where guitarist Roger Staffelbach met vocalist John West, forging seven albums no less between them. Staffelbach would then form Angel Of Eden, where he would hook up with keyboardist Misteria (Winterlong, Bruce Dickinson, Rob Rock) and bass legend Steve Di Georgio (Death, Control Denied, Sadus, Testament, Iced Earth, Sebastian Bach), all of whom now feature in Artlantica! Completed by John Macaluso (Malmsteen, TNT, Ark) on drums, the style here is similar with soaring melodic vocals, epic neo classical guitar and virtuoso soloing on songs like ‘Demon In My mind’, ‘Fight For The Light’ and ‘Ode To My Angel’. In many ways Staffelbach and West contrast each other in a fire n ice way, but their overall effect to the material is brilliantly complementary as is the general musical excellence of the rest of the band throughout the album. With little effects this really is one of those technical albums that fans of instrumentalist based music can fully appreciate!
