Bloodbound – “One Night Of Blood”

Bloodbound – “One Night Of Blood” DVD/2CD (AFM Records)

Battle Helm Rating

Marking their appearance at last year’s Masters Of Rock festival in the Czech Republic and moreover, celebrating the first decade of the band itself, comes this live package from Bloodbound! Despite flirtations with corpse paint Bloodbound are far removed from black metal, and have more in common with the modern generation of Swedish power metallers like Sabaton, with a strong epic theme defined by heroic riffs, passionate melodies and of course, massive singalong choruses like on ‘When Demons Collide’. As such I can see no better a platform than a festival to record this 14 track live album graced by all of the above – and naturally a big, enthusiastic crowd eager to add its own voice to songs like ‘In The Name Of Metal’! Little encouragement is needed by vocalist Patrik Johansson, who adds to the heartfelt camaraderie with his own soulful vocals like on crowd rousing ‘Stormborn’ while the Olsson brothers pile in the riffola and solos with plenty of melodic passion on the soul stirring ‘Nightmares From The Grave’. With the band increasingly touring – indeed they are presently embarking on a European tour with Sabaton – this live package is both a superb showcase of their highly catchy material as well as their proven live capability as captured vividly in this electric performance. Needless to say I thoroughly enjoyed the lot along with the DVD including a documentary, the video clips ‘Stormborn’, ‘In The Name Of Metal’ and the previously unreleased ‘In The Name Of Metal’ performance version + additional Live clips (‘Moria’ Live @ Masters Of Rock 2012, ‘Stormborm’ Live @ Out & Loud festival 2015, ‘In The Name Of Metal’ Live in Oberhausen 2015). Warriors unto the end!
