Centinex – “Doomsday Rituals”

Centinex – “Doomsday Rituals” (Agonia Records)

Battle Helm Rating

Centinex began in 1990 as part of the original Swedish death metal movement, releasing 8 respectable albums before disbanding in 2005. Then, 2 years ago, they suddenly resurfaced with a new line up made up of original bassist Martin Schulman (Demonical), longtime drummer Kennet Englund (Interment, Centinex 1999-2003) and new members Sverker Widgren (Demonical, Diabolical) on guitar and vocalist Alexander Högbom (October Tide, Spasmodic). Although Swedish, Centinex hark back to the founding period when there was as much influence from Florida bands such as early 90s Death as there was from the Stockholm sound being pioneered by the likes of Entombed. Roaring, barrel bottom vocals, heavy demonic riffing, sick wailing solos and a chugging rhythm define that classic sound – with brutality whatever the speed – be it slow, mid tempo or fast on songs like ‘Dismemberment Supreme’, ‘Generation of Flies’ or ‘The Shameful Few’. Already confirmed for Turun Kuolema II Festival (Finland), Maryland Deathfest (US), Move Your Fucking Brain Extreme Fest (Estonia), Sick Midsummer Fest (Austria), Barther Metal Open Air (Germany) and NTEY Deathfest (Czech Republic) with a full scale European assault later in the fall this year, Centinex are back with an authentic sound once again ready to be served up to the slavering death metal masses!
