Colour Of Noise – “Colour Of Noise”

Colour Of Noise – “Colour Of Noise” (Colour Of Noise/Townsend Music)

Having already made their impact at this year’s Download festival, Hard Rock Hell and Planet Rock Stock followed by supporting Thunder across Europe comes the new Brit rock super group in Colour Of Noise! With the nucleus made up of Matt ‘Jagger’ Mitchell (Furyon, Pride) on vocals, ex Little Angels guitarist Bruce John Dickinson and drummer Randy Nixon (Magic Bullet Band, The Jeevas, Straw) these guys play a very classy modern take on late 60s, early 70s blues based rock along the lines of Free, Bad Company, ZZ Top and AC/DC. With that in mind you can imagine what we’re talking about – endless fretboard warbling, monster grooves that just make you wanna shake, and hard as cow boots rock out rhythms courtesy of Dan Electro’s (aka Swedish Dan, the Sweed, Dan The Man) rhythm guitar and man mountain bassist ‘Silent’ Ben Daniels. Rather than dust out the flares, the guys have gone for a modern interpretation but keeping things authentic like using hand made reproductions of early Marshalls and recording live on 2 inch tape with few overdubs – and unashamedly loud – pretty much how those great aforementioned bands did back in their day! Does it rock – oh man, just check out the AC/DC goes to heaven of ‘Rock Bottom’, the chugging power riff of ‘Drive It Like You Stole’, or the anthemic ‘Great Day For Rock And Roll’ that certainly got that Download crowd going!! With that strong blues base keeping it altogether Colour Of Noise definitely have more groove and soul than a traditional rock band, the icing being Matt Mitchell’s higher but still in the manly soulful vein of Dave Coverdale vocals. With more festival dates and an Xmas UK tour with The Dead Daisies happening whoever said that old rockers should retire when they can still make great rock albums recorded the classic way like this!
