Deathscythe – “In All of Us” (Noiseheadrecords)
Italian bands have been going from strength to strength over the years and here they make a pretty good go at it in the melodic black / death arena. Deathscythe formed in 2006 but it was only last year having been thru many line up changes that they reached a solid group. Well, it was worth it cos this is one tight outfit with talented musicianship in all areas and certainly capable of matching their other European cousins. Massimo Maggi leads the way with his powerful yet diverse vocals employing a dual screech / guttural style while the rhythm of bassist Elena Malpeli and drummer Paolo Copeta is time perfect as well as suitably hard hitting! However, it’s the twin guitars of Dario Manfredi and Andrea Ferrari that give Deathscythe the cutting edge, working smoothly with one another so that as one delivers the power, the other lays on the melodies, in this case influenced by the Scandinavian scene on songs like ‘Caged’, ‘Deus Ex Machina’ and ‘The Triumph’. With some confidence and touring behind them, this lot could develop their material more deeply and prove very promising indeed.
