Dimebag Darrell – “Dimevision, Vol.2: Roll with It or Get Rolled Over” (Metal Blade Records)
Still sadly mourned after his tragic passing in 2004 comes the 2nd installment of tribute video in memory of legendary Pantera guitarist, Diamond Darrell Abbott. Culled from hundreds of tapes into 43 hours of usable footage by girlfriend Rita Haney and official Pantera videographer Daryl ‘Bobby Tongs’ Arnberger, “Dimevision, Vol.2….” continues the life story of Abbott as he would want it – a fun trip of whisky, hijinks, fireworks and most of all, his music. The title itself comes from his own dialect (‘Dime-bonics’) with the phrase memorable to Haney from numerous phone calls he made to her while on the road so it doesn’t get more authentic and closer to the heart than this. From sleep apnea antics with doctors to pedicures to girl scouts selling cookies, everything is hilariously sent up as viewed through Abbott’s unique perspective on the world. And now it can be yours too….as seen and spoken by the man himself along with some more poignant moments, as Haney and Arnberger felt that his untimely death did not allow more people go beyond what they saw onstage to understand Abbott as an individual, and particular his big outgoing personality. As part of unearthing the footage came songs that he recorded in his off time as a way of salvation from the pressures of touring and drink anxiety, and five of these are included here from the modern southern rock of ‘Whiskey Road’ to the hillbilly rock of ‘Twisted’ complete with cow poke geetar and the close to Pantera power groove of ‘Ain’t No Struggle’. In “Dimevision, Vol.2: Roll with It or Get Rolled Over” you don’t just get what Abbott was all about, but what he had so much more to offer, thus making his passing even more sorely missed.
