Disrupted – “Pure Death” (Memento Mori / De:Nihil)
Battle Helm Rating
Time to break out the bone saw and let rip! There’s no messin’ on this one as it’s back to the early days of Boss HM-2 Swe-death for fans of Grave, Dismember and early Entombed. Formed in the small Swedish city of Ludvika in 2012, Disrupted have clearly grown up to the sounds of their famed elders and in total homage to their old school style, released this sophomore of 10 tracks that take it right back to the late 80s and early 90s. With guest appearances fromNick Holmes (Paradise Lost, Bloodbath), Per ‘Sodomizer’ Eriksson (ex-Bloodbath, ex-Katatonia), Tomas Åkvik (LIK) and Mats Andersson (Wretched Fate), “Pure Death” does exactly what is says on its rusty tin – in massive style! Crashing in through a tidal wave of distortion on ‘Carve’, the syrup thick riffs bath you in reverb as growling, predatory vocals go to work on your fast collapsing psyche in an immensely catchy way, making death seem all the more appealing in its perverse delight. Whirring in on ‘Goat Lord’, the frenzy of death amid chopping snare beats and the flurry of double bass drumming with gutturals is hard to resist, especially when it slows down to a catchy headbanging groove where the thick distortion, warbling melodies, slick kick beats and bear roars work in perfect unison to utterly possess you. Through immenseBoss HM-2 waves, ‘Chopped Into Oblivion’ does precisely that as it drills its way into you amid smashing drums and wailing rock ‘n’ roll solos, while the gruff roars continue right up until its speedy ending. An album of cataclysmic proportions, “Pure Death” is a true contagion warning from a band you don’t wanna fuck with.
