Eden’s Curse – ‘Live With The Curse’

Eden’s Curse – ‘Live With The Curse’ 2CD (AFM Records)

Although initially formed as a studio project by Scottish bassist Paul Logue (Cry Havoc) and since departed US vocalist Micheal Eden (Seven Ten), the rise of Eden’s Curse has clearly been a blessing to many such is their meteoric rise! Attesting to the fact that geographical boundaries are no limits to this band having German guitarist Thorsten Koehne (Code Of Perfection / Demon Drive / Attack) and now Serbian vocalist Nikola Mijic in this line-up, Eden’s Curse have seen a dazzling array of star musicians in their group at one time or another like Alessandro Del Vecchio (Moonstone Project, Silent Force etc), Ferdy Doernberg (Axel Rudi Pell, Therion etc) and Dream Theatre’s own James LaBrie. Clearly their brand of melodic technical rock has been nothing short of addictive and has seen them churn out 4 studio albums but more importantly, also on the live front supporting Stratovarius, playing summer festivals and more recently, undertaking their own 7 date UK headlining tour! Hardly a surprise then that it was time for a live album and given the obvious talent and ambition of the band, why not make it a double live and record it in your hometown of Glasgow where the crowds never fail to disappoint! Joined by international fans who flew across the globe to be part of this special event, the band haven’t let anyone down with this, culling their 20 song, 100 minute 2CD package from all four albums that never fail to disappoint with songs like ‘Masquerade Ball’, ‘Black Widow’ and ‘Evil & Divine’ whose classy songwriting yet unpretentious accessibility clearly offer warm embrace to all appreciative of them. Mijic’s crystal clear high vocals and Steve Williams keyboards provide the perfect ice to the fiery virtuoso guitars of Koehne and John Clelland’s hard hitting drums which definitely give Eden’s Curse a heavy edge that clearly goes down well live as judging by the highly motivated singalong crowd. There’s a definite energy and enthusiasm to the band who effectively combine graceful melodies and soft harmony vocals with a hard rocking vibe that has been captured excellently by Dennis Ward’s (Pink Cream 69 / Unisonic) mix, offering the perfect platform for the next spell bounding saga of Eden’s Curse – hopefully a DVD next time eh guys!
