Johansson & Speckmann – “Mask Of The Treacherous”

Johansson & Speckmann – “Mask Of The Treacherous” (Vic Records)

A diabolical duo if there ever was one!! Prepare for one of the ultimate collaborations of all time in old school death metal legend Paul Speckmann (Master, Death Strike, Abomination) and modern death metal entrepreneur Rogga Johansson (Paganizer, Ribspreader, The Grotesquery) – along with Norwegian drum wizard Brynjar Helgetun (The Grotesquery, Ribspreader)! Musically the perfect synthesis between both styles, expect hammer twanging bass work and massive, buzzsaw riffing along with some wild, insane soloing from Johansson while Speckmann’s classic guttural, vomit inducing vocals spit forth hatred and damnation on songs like ‘Enslaved In Filth’, ‘The Bringer Of Pain’ and ‘A Grave For This World’ while being hammered and pounded relentlessly by Helgetun. The follow up to 2013’s “Sulphur Skies”, “Mask Of The Treacherous” shows the talent of these two great guys at work from Johansson’s music that seems to have been written specifically with Speckmann in mind throughout, with the lyrics collaboratively constructed and arranged between them. From Simon & Garfunkel to Hall & Oates, death metal now has its own dastardly duo in Johansson & Speckmann – prepare to die!
