Lacrimas Profundere – “Antiadore”

Lacrimas Profundere – “Antiadore” (Napalm Records)

This German goth / rock band have been going since the mid 90s when their sound was more death / doom before going through the inevitable transitions to find themselves where they are now. There are still tinges of their past with the occasional vocal growl and in their rhythm, which remains hard and punchy but for the main, Rob Vitacca’s voice alternates between goth and kinda like Layne Staley’s deep, tripped out vox. Equally, founder guitarist Oliver Nikolas Schmid’s guitars vibrantly shift between melancholic melodies to flirting with power riffs and goth rock. There’s also a liberal use of electronics bringing both atmosphere and even a dance groove to songs like ‘Dead To Me’, ‘Head Held High’ and ‘Still In Need’ the overall tempo of which is upbeat rather than depressing. Overall it seems that Lacrimas Profundere are comfortably positioning themselves between goth rock and the post grunge sound of Alter Bridge. Still, with a band going through so many evolutions in its career, it’s hard to tell where we’ll find Lacrimas Profundere next?
