Leader Of Down – “Cascade Into Chaos” (Cleopatra Records)
Continuing the Motör – legacy comes Leader Of Down, the last band formed by Motörhead guitarist Würzel, who actually began working on the material for this debut release before tragically passing away in 2011. Since then, the remaining members have continued to finish the album, enlisting the help of some friends to honour the great man. And what a list it is! With guest appearances from Lemmy, Fast Eddie Clarke, Phil Campbell, Whitfield Crane (Ugly Kid Joe), Bruce Foxton (The Jam) and Cliff Evans (Tank), “Cascade Into Chaos” is at last complete. The 10 tracks include Motör-rocker ‘Paradise Turned Into Dust’ with Lemmy providing the lead vocals just before his own passing in 2015, along with the aptly titled snake rattle n roller ‘Laugh At The Devil’ which also features Fast Eddie no less! With Bruce Foxton providing a second bass to Leader Of Down’s own Tim Atkinson on the doubly heavy ‘Serial Killjoy’, Phil Campbell adds a very classy blues solo complementing Würzel’s original work on the deep ‘Children Of Disease’ while Fast Eddie simply tears it up on ‘Snakebite’ – straight out’ve the “Overkill” era complete with hammering double bass drums – yeah man! Completed by the mean n brooding ‘The Killing Rain’, the last ever song that Würzel ever recorded, “Cascade Into Chaos” is not just a fitting tribute to the lovable man himself, but to all the members of Motörhead involved, attesting to a legend that just won’t go away and in fact, continues to make its presence felt even more so. RIP Michael ‘Würzel’ Burston (1949 – 2011).
