Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard – “Y Proffwyd Dwyll”

Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard – “Y Proffwyd Dwyll” (New Heavy Sounds)

Battle Helm Rating

SCHAMANENDOOM!!!!! If you like Conan, Windhand and YoB, then Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard will undoubtedly appeal to you in a big way. Hailing from Wales, hence the undecipherable title to this sophomore, these ‘…3 ape descendants and an astral seraphim..’ combine plutonium heavy doom sludge with ethereal grunge trippiness and space rock into one stellar package that will blind the socks off you. The second part of a trilogy, “Y Proffwyd Dwyll”, while undoubtedly heavy like a dead weight, superbly melds with the outstanding vocal talents of Jessica Ball, whose power to entrance and hypnotize cannot be understated on massive tracks like ‘Gallego’, ‘Valmasque’ and ‘Osirian’. Together they produce an mind blowing effect: primordial yet mystical along with cosmic swirling swathes of Moog wig outs that will induce you into an altered state way before the 6 tracks (all weighing in around the 8 or 9 minute mark) come to an end. Released just 9 months after their debut “Noeth Ac Anoeth”, it is once again produced by Chris Fielding (Conan) to give a fat fuzzed up sound that is also heady and intoxicating. A very immersive dark brew indeed.
