“Lys Noir”
(Sepulchral Productions)
Canadian or Quebecois black metal to be more correct seem to be a genre all its own these days. Not that I’m complaining. The stuff that I’ve heard from that particular genre has all been cool. So it is with some trepidation that I take on this album. I still keep returning to the black metal sound of the 90s simply because I find it so appealing. I like the simplicity of it all. No fancy dressing up. Just plain naked power. MONARQUE has that sound. Just the music doing the talking. If that is part of the Quebecois sound I don’t know. And I really don’t care. When black metal is played this good I don’t really care about geography. I’ll just settle for another cool black metal album to listen to. Anders Ekdahl
