Nails – “You Will Never Be One Of Us” (Nuclear Blast Records)
If you like your music short, sharp and straight to the point then self titled power violence band Nails certainly fits that bill! Another ultra power trio putting out some serious levels of noise, Nails play extremely hard and aggressive metal skillfully mixed with just the right blend of hardcore and absolutely no frills whatsoever. That’s to say they have a lean approach to their albums like they do live: fast and fluid and most importantly, to the point! In fact, this 3rd album is their longest release to date at 21 minutes, which by all accounts is how long they also play onstage – at least in the US. Call it boredom, or attention deficit, whatever the case, the aural intensity of Todd Jones’s ugly, throat raw shout outs – not to mention his dirty, low toned guitar – coupled with John Gianelli’s heavy, sliding bass and Taylor Young’s nuclear propelled double bass drums ensures total devastation, as well as a perverse allure to songs like ‘Life Is A Death Sentence’, ‘Violence Is Forever’ and ‘They Come Crawling Back’, which at 8 minutes is probably the band’s greatest epic. Definitely one of the most intense bands out there right now, Nails are certain to put the heat into anyone looking for total carnage but also the class and respect of the street.
