Nashville Pussy – “Ten Years Of Pussy” 2CD (Steamhammer / SPV)

‘….well she was flatter than a pancake, and nowhere near as sweet…’. Like a twisted rebel yell cross between AC/DC and the Dukes Of Hazzard, the husband and wife team of Blaine Cartwright and the up front Ruyter Suys have been ripping it up with their tongue in cheek, southern bar room boogie for over 2 decades. Clearly too damn bad ass for some folks, the lucky few who have been able to see beyond the parody will know that band have played over 1,000 gigs in 40 different countries and toured with the likes of ZZ Top, Motorhead, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Slayer! Besides that they’ve been awarded a Grammy, with Suys has been voted one of the best female rock performers ever. But kitten’s they certainly ain’t. From Blaine’s whiskey soaked vocals to Ruyter’s low down n dirty guitar along with a rhythm section that never lets up – even if they haveta be replaced after every damn album – Nashville Pussy are a seasoned rocking machine built to destroy bars, barns and even the odd festival or two. Just check out the full on ‘Go Motherfucker Go’ resplendent with bad ass babe harmonies as Blaine croons it out like some possessed dirt bag biker, or the AC/DC punk n roll of ‘I’m So High’ with Danko Jones guesting. Suys’s warbling riffs n soloing kick some serious ass across any bottle strewn bar and the anthemic ‘The South Is Too Fat To Rise Again’ is power drenched in rock riffs and chugging pan head rhythm. Yeah, it’s easy to see why some people find Nashville Pussy a tad intimidating cos you’ll be either be dancing, fucking, or fighting – maybe all at the same time! Taken from their last 3 albums on flagship German label SPV are 16 studio tracks and 6 bonus live ones that show you why this backwoods crew from Atlanta, Georgia are one of the meanest southern boogie machines out there bar none. “Ten Years Of Pussy” says it all that pussy’s not a dirty word, and you goddam know it!
