Nashville Pussy – “Up The Dosage” (Steamhammer / SPV)

If the Dukes Of Hazzard were a parody on Southern livin’ then Nashville Pussy have gotta be the music equivalent of putting that into reality – tits n all! Fronted by the outrageous husband / wife duo of Blaine Cartwright n Ruyter Suys (pronounced ‘rider sighs’) both on geetar n vocals, Nashville Pussy unashamedly play no nonsense dirty bar rock that reeks of many a wrecked night, complete with the next day stench of puke, blood and cum. Complemented by a string of Amazonian bass players that coulda been the next generation of Russ Meyer’s starlets Nashville Pussy pretty much had every bar from Hell ta Texas sewn up. Still, you gotta wonder where they could take it from there, especially for folks who didn’t exactly shine to the image. Well, “Up The Dosage” answers that. This is easily Nashville Pussy’s most technical – yep, you heard it technical – album. Taking it straight from the early pub rock of AC/DC, Cartwright then brings in that Southern groove all over it like syrup running over pancakes (or Ruyter lol – Ed) and you’ve biker rock going to the awards on this one. From the Motorhead chugging ‘Rub It To Death’ to the punk anthemic ‘The South’s Too Fat To Rise Again‘ Nashville Pussy hit the throttle with some of the catchiest material on this side of the Mason Dixon line, now setting their sights to follow in the stadium bashing traditions of Ted Nugent. Hell yeah! Just check out those guitars on the stomping hard rock of ‘Till The Meat Falls Off The Bone’, mixing in the warblings and rhythms of Angus n Malcolm right over to the southern blues rock of ZZ Top on the title track. With the banjo folk of ‘Hooray For Cocaine, Hooray For Tennessee’ bringing the finishing touches to this impressive album the final laugh is clearly on the band as there’s definitely a big brain in Blaine and as well as some serious talent in Ruyter. Nashville Pussy bring the best of the South to the world, and yeah, it’s still damn sleazy!
