Omega Crom – “Beyond Control”

Omega Crom – “Beyond Control” (

Blistering OTT metal from Vancouver BC! With a name inspired by Robert E Howard novels and The Savage Sword of Conan comics, Omega Crom sing n play it just like their barbarian hero on this savage, yet suave sophomore album. The brainchild of founder guitarist vocalist Johnny Ketlo, expect nothing less than a molten metal fest on songs like ‘Sundering Blades’, ‘Blood Red Moon’ and the aptly titled ‘Brains All Over The Floor’. A bicep flexing modern mix of Megadeth, Judas Priest and Iron Maiden, Ketlo is nothing short of a guitar monster as he slashes out classic riff after riff amidst his soprano operatic vocals while unleashing his volcanic virtuoso solos – quite how the man can stand after a hyperbolic attack such as this defies belief, but it doesn’t come as a surprise that Omega Crom are one of Vancouver’s best kept secrets – well no more! Backing Ketlo comes the jet propelled rhythm of Sylvain Maltais’s earthquake bass and Colin Furness’s hyper speed drumming with naturally heaps of propelling double bass. Still, amidst the adrenalized battle rush, Ketlo shows his measure as a composer by bringing in deep but tranquil interludes along with some guest vocals from high priestess Celine Derval that add to overall epic fervor of the material. Yes, it’s easy to see why there have been loads of personnel who’ve enlisted in Omega Crom’s ranks over the years – including Iced Earth’s own Stu Block – as this really is a magnificent album that deserves to be hallowed in the halls of the glorious!
