Serpentine Path – “Emanations” (Relapse Records)
Abominatione! Formed from the ashes of NYC’s cult doom band Unearthly Trance and Electric Wizard / Ramesses guitarist Tim Bagshaw comes the unholy doom death alliance of Serpentine Path. Now joined by ex Winter guitarist Stephen Flam this is the supergroup that everyone’s stoking their misery for – and this critter doesn’t disappoint! From Ryan Lipynsky’s haunting predator vocals to the depressive feedback drenched guitars of Bagshaw and Flam songs like ‘Claws’, ‘Disfigured Colossus‘ and ‘Treacherous Waters’ leave little to the imagine being ultra heavy doom noise that rips into you viscerally and without mercy. With distorted bass and skull pounding drums bringing up the rear, these veterans have have gone into their 90s underground roots (and worst nightmares – Ed) to produce a punishing opus befitting their pedigrees! “Emanations” simply crushes in its wake from what is no longer a project but a full time living beast unleashing its savagery unto the world like its prehistoric predecessors EyeHateGod, Iron Monkey and Grief did in their own brutal time.
