SILENCER “THe Great Bear”

SILENCER
“The Great Bear”
(–)
I’ve never lived under the threat of the cold war. I have no idea what it is like to live with that kind of propaganda being shoved down your throat in school or at work. We in Sweden knew of Check Point Charlie and the Berlin Wall. The Swedish territorial borders were more than once breached by Soviet submarines and the knowledge of a cold war going on was ever so present but nowhere near as close as living under it. But that pretty much ended with the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. So why write a concept album about it 23 later? You’ll have to ask Silencer about that. All I can tell you about is the music. And musically this is pretty good stuff. There is a slight progressive touch to the metal that gives the album a grace of elegance. Other than that this is thrash metal. And pretty good thrash metal. Perhaps with a slight old school touch just to add to the authenticity. If only I could remember what it is that it reminds me of. Never mind that. I’ll just have to keep enjoying it for what it is; a good thrash metal album. Anders Ekdahl
