STEEL FLOWERS “Kleptocracy”

(Red Cat Records)
Whenever I come upon anything being described as alternative metal I take a step or two back. You don’t really know what you’ll get with that description. It could be the weirdness of Mr Bungle or some sort of off-beat funk stuff. Most often it turns out alright but every now and then you end up with a pile of garbage. STEEL FLOWERS could have turned out any which way but they actually turned out ok. Perhaps not the stuff I rush out and buy on release date. Somehow I come to think of a less funkish Mindfunk when I listen to this. A bit more metal but with that same openness to the music that Mindfunk had. All in all this appeals to a side in me that doesn’t get activated that often. Anders Ekdahl
