Sweet & Lynch – “Only To Rise” (Frontiers Music)
Sweet & Lynch – it doesn’t get any better than this! Featuring none other than vocalist Michael Sweet of controversial Christian hard rockers STRYPER and legendary guitarist George Lynch (LYNCH MOB, DOKKEN), this iconic combination brings together two of the best on this superb hard rock album that takes you straight back to the 80s. With bassist James Lomenzo (ex MEGADETH, WHITE LION, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY) and drummer Brian Tichy (ex WHITESNAKE) bringing up the rear in fine style, all the memories flood back in as Lynch affirms his place in rock history as one of THE premiere guitarists around, breaking my heart on the rock ballad of ‘Love Stays’ as Sweet croons you to tears with his heavenly soul. Then its down n sleazy on ‘Dying Rose’ as Lynch’s licks n breaks tease n tantalize while Sweet titillates as these guys give GnR a serious money on the street sultriness of ‘Divine’. Man, you’d think these guys are still out there rocking stadiums!! With a hint of the 70s coming in on the vocal harmonies, the overall production – especially in Tichy’s big drum sound – comes into its own on the hard rocking end numbers of ‘Strength In Numbers’ and ‘Hero-Zero’ which has hints of Zepp along with a Van Halen-esque technical groove – excellent thanks once again to Lynch’s guitar work. Possibly one of the duos thought impossible at the time, Sweet & Lynch bring the dream to reality on this stunning album that tells it the way it was and leaves you breathless for more….
