Unleash The Archers – “Time Stands Still” (Napalm Records)
Either sounding like some British sit com or conjuring up images of medieval battles, Vancouver BC’s Unleash The Archers have been on the road since their inception in 2007, subsequently creating a loyal North American fan base over the course of two prior albums and a slew of EPs and videos, the latest of which ‘Tonight We Ride’ is a direct take on Mad Max! Thankfully their music isn’t quite as mayhemic as Max Rockatansky, but rather some very classy up tempo heavy / power / melodic death metal inspired by the likes of Lost Horizon or Riot being heavily guitar driven in its epic riffs and melodic solos that are simply all over songs like ‘Tonight We Ride’, ‘No More Heroes’ and ‘Go Down Fighting’. Backed by a versatile rhythm to boot who are able to deliver heavy chopping beats along with up tempo gallops, the best aspect of Unleash The Archers is that despite their classic influences, they still manage to sound fresh and invigorating, but most of all, highly catchy! Vocally they use a mix of unclean backing male vocals and the stratospheric soprano highs of Brittney Slayes (what a name) whose inspirations of Bob Halford and Bruce Dickinson give you an idea of this lady’s incredible power! Despite having gone through a few lineup changes over the last 8 years, Unleash The Archers talented songwriting with its incredibly anthemic feel for heaviness and melodies ensure this promising quintet are now ready to take on the world!
