VARDIS is another of the classic NWOBHM bands that shaped a whole generation’s taste in metal. I wasn’t into them back in the 80s. I found other NWOBHM to be far more interesting. But I did know of them. And read about them. But it is first now with the rerelease of their albums that I really get to hear the albums. And I am looking forward to it. I don’t know if I would have appreciated this stuff back in the days because they sound nothing like Saxon or iron Maiden or Tygers Of Pan Tang or Tokyo Blade. Today on the other hand is a whole different ball game. Today I can appreciate them for what they are. you have to take into account that back in the late 70s/early 80s there weren’t that many bands around that played hard and heavy. It is not like today when you have to fight off bands because they are everywhere. When I listen to this today I hear traces of Sweet and other 70s stuff in VARDIS sound. More hardrock than heavy metal. These albums are still a big part of the NWOBHM phenomenon. Anders Ekdahl
