Xandria – “Fire & Ashes”

Xandria – “Fire & Ashes” EP (Napalm Records)

Symphonic splendor! Hot off the heals of their hugely impressive “Sacrificium” comes this 7 track EP to satiate those of us still hungry for more from the magical world of Xandria. Energy, eloquence and excellence are just a few things that spring to mind when I listen to musical majesty of this hugely talented band in 3 brand new songs that continue at the same astronomical level as that prior release. Driven by the grand soprano vocals of Dianne van Giersbergen that brilliantly come alive in the masterful compositions of founder guitarist Marco Heubaum, Xandria’s capability goes well beyond their own material in their brilliant symphonic cover of Meat Loaf’s ‘I’d Do Anything For Love’ that could bring tears of passion to anyone’s eyes and a superbly suave goth’d up version of Sonata Arctica’s ‘Don’t Say A Word’. Simply beyond words! If that wasn’t enough they offer two special re-recordings of all time Xandria fan faves in ‘Ravenheart’ and ‘Now & Forever’, now with a more modernized sound that leave nothing to mind about the symphonic grace of this band……
